Hot Water Systems

Hot Water System: A hot water system is a plumbing infrastructure designed to distribute hot water throughout a building or facility. It typically consists of a heat source (such as a boiler), pipes, valves, pumps, and radiators or other heat exchangers. There are two main types of hot water systems:

  • Closed Loop System: In a closed-loop system, water is heated by a central heat source (e.g., a boiler) and circulated through a network of pipes to heat exchangers (e.g., radiators or underfloor heating systems) in different rooms or zones of a building. The heated water then returns to the boiler to be reheated and recirculated.

  • Open Vent System: In an open vent system, water is heated by a boiler and stored in a hot water cylinder or tank. The heated water is then distributed to taps, showers, and appliances throughout the building as needed. Cold water from the mains supply refills the cylinder to replace the hot water used.

    • System Boilers: System boilers are similar to conventional boilers but incorporate additional components like expansion vessels and circulating pumps within the unit. They’re suitable for properties with high hot water demand and offer easier installation compared to traditional heating systems.

    • Condensing Boilers: These boilers are designed to extract more heat from the combustion process, resulting in higher efficiency and lower fuel consumption. They utilize a secondary heat exchanger to capture and condense water vapor from the exhaust gases, releasing latent heat energy.
